A JV giveaway event is a site setup by online marketers who agree to make use of their lists of subscribers to help strengthen the lists of all the participants taking part. By participating in such an event each member has the potential to build up their own mailing list by using the combined power of all the other list builders who are taking part.

The way it works is every single member of the JV giveaway submits one or more gifts along with their squeeze pages that they will use to collect new sign-ups. They then agree to email their mailing list on launch day advertising the event and all the free products contributed by other members.

Are JV giveaway events really a reasonable way to construct your list quickly? The answer to this question is: it depends on the situation. If you are running your own JV giveaway than it most certainly is.
Even if you are unpracticed and the event is not so well run, you will build your list by 100's if not 1000's of subscribers. Winning events may add to your list many 1000's of new subscribers but you will have to really be great at it and have a name that pull in people. You will benefit greatly if you could find yourself a seasoned partner to run the event together. If you are registering for someone else to event as a contributor than you will grow your opt-in list.

Will it be dramatic growth? Again - it depends on the situation. If this is a well established event (running at the same time of the year for several years) and if you do good work with your contribution (more on that later) then you can see 100's of new subscribers on your list. However, most of the JV giveaways I've seen are either run by unacquainted people or are conducted by "professional" event managers on behalf of others. Sadly, most of those are not so well conducted and the results for participants are way worse than one could hope for.

Conclusion

JV giveaways are one way of developing your mailing list. Use them well and you will benefit.

Use other ways to build your list as well; don't rely on JV giveaway events alone.
